After further consideration and having read the newsletter piece on the Fourth Quarter, I have some serious misgivings about the doings of the Matthews Center. The heart is in the right place, but I think that the method is all wrong. They will have a helluva time getting this past the community, it seems.
While I understood Tiff’s comments regarding best practices, I think that looking at what others are doing helps to keep from reinventing the wheel, opens the minds to alternative ideas, and hopefully prompts questions about the methodology that will be employed in a project. It may also show that the project is not viable.
In this case, I think it’s about place and politics. It appears that there is a disconnect between the community and the center and a lack of understanding about the merits of the project on one side and the concerns of the community on the other.
They probably need to go back to the drawing board.
